The Park History
Taman Negara is the oldest protected area in the country. Originated from the legislation of Pahang in 1925, which set aside 130,000ha of land designated as Gunung Tahan Game Reserve. Then declared as King George V National Park in 1938 by the Sultans of 3 states Pahang, Trengganu and Kelantan. To preserve the land's indigenous nature in perpetuity, it was gazette separately by each state's Enactments in 1938-1939. The park was renamed Taman Negara after the nation gain independence in 1957.No commercial exploitations is permitted, except for subsistence hunting by the aboriginals (the Orang Asli people).
Dark history of Taman Negara was almost happened in 1971 by the proposal of Malaysian National Electricity Board to build a dam on the Sungei Tembeling. The idea was abandoned in 1978, but was revived again in 1982, only to be discarded in 1983 through the effort of Malaysian Nature Society, who lobbied the federal government. Upcoming Trip: Taman Negara Jerantut, Pahang

TC is organising our next trip to Taman Negara, Jerantut. It is scheduled during the 1st week of semester break.

Price range from rm250 to rm300.
Date from 11th to 13th October 2009.

(Price and date is yet to be confirmed. The actual details will be finalised and informed later. Stay tuned.)
Here's a little sneak peak of what you can expect from this trip.

Canopy walking. Walk among the lush carpet of rainforest and spot the faunas, while suspended several meters above the ground level.

Rapid shooting. Cruise in the violent river. You will get wet not only in the pants.

Tree hugging. This large tree circumference is equals to 8 or more humans' hand to hand length.

Gua Telinga. This ear-like rock formation limestone cave will be physically demanding.
In many cases these caves are home to bats, swiftlets, snakes, toads, cockroaches, spiders, centipedes,… In spite of this, or because of it, some people like to explore caves; and Taman Negara offers some outstanding opportunities.

Acommodation. Frankly, this is an adventurous trip. Be prepared to leave some of the luxury home but we will try our best to make you feel comfortable.

For those of you interested in learning about other cultures such as the Orang Asli(aborigines), lets embrace diversity.

For those photography junkies, Taman Negara will provide nature for your portrait.

So make a date with us to Taman Negara Jerantut.

1st Ice Breaking Trip

At the very first beginning of this semester break, the committees of Tourism Club(TC) had gathered to visit Perak. The objective was to bind our committees..

Lo and behold, this is an account on how we "terrorized" that place.

Our journey starts from MMU at about 11.30am. Due to time constraints, our lunch was packed noodles and juicy watermelons eaten in the bus. The weather did not agree with us. It was raining. However, the game must go on. In full TC spirit (ahem) we played in the rain!

Lots of photo taking session afterwards. I shall spare you the details as you may check out these in our official FB account. ;)

At night, we tortured the losing team with a "Happy Feet" dance. Their performance was spectacular as Xiang Hue did borrowed her expertise in choreographing the dance routine. ~~~somebody call 911, shawty on the dance flo. woo ooo hoo

Congratulations to the winning team. The actual team members is only 48% of this picture (the rest are calefes).

After a very competitive game of dodgeball, it was time to say goodnight. Night at the campsite was beautiful. We slept in tents next to a lake.

The next morning, we exercised, freshen up and had breakfast in a jiffy. We leaved the Lost World of Tambun and head to Ipoh.

Well, if you are in Ipoh their food is a must!

Funny Mountain Tou Fu Fah! Cost only 80 cents per bowl. Cheap and nice!

Nearby there is a delicious hor fun stall. Served with Ipoh's succulent chicken and crunchy beansprout.

The meal was good. The members shopped for Ipoh local delicacies too.

Next, we head to Sungkai Hot Spring. It might be the same destination as last year's, but this time with a CRAZIER crowd.

Real ouch. The water is about 40-50 degree celcius and these "friends" are "killing" each other.

Besides, you can boil eggs in these hot springs.

And so we bade farewell. We had dinner at R&R and reached MMU at about 8pm with sore limps but sweet memories.
p/s: Take a good look at this picture. This picture is AWESOME in TC hall of fame. You will know why later on.

All our thanks to JiumWei, JitSern, and the committed committees who had worked hard for more than 2 months for this 2 less than days trip; for without them, none of this will materialize. The rest, you people ROCK!!!

Till then, happy holidays.

Look up in this space for our upcoming trip.
The next one will be the adventurous Taman Negara Jerantut. Details will be up shortly.

I don't hope TC spamming tradition lives on. By the time I hit published, there were 528 freaking FB comments on ONE picture! Our mailbox are pathetic now.
